FOCUS ON YOU - The Orcutt Mineral Society

The OMS meets here at the Luis Oasis Senior Center at 7PM on the second Tuesday of most months. They are a group dedicated to stimulating interest in the earth sciences. The Club offers educational programs, field trips, scholarships and opportunities for families and individuals to pursue their interests in collecting and the treatment of lapidary materials, fossil, gems, and minerals. Their meetings are open to the public and you are encouraged to attend. Check our calendar for dates.

On November 8, 2011, Dr. Robert Gray was the guest speaker. Dr. Gray brought his assistant Eiko Kitao and eight of his students, along with an amazing collection of fossils covering two tables. His riveting talk was titled "The Last Great Extinction: Exiled Mammoths of the Channel Islands and Saber Tooth Cats of Rancho La Brea". It was an amazing evening as these pictures can attest.
